This Sporty Sunglasses Silhouette Is Having Its Moment in the Sun

In 2018, sporty sunglasses started to take the reins from that year’s most omnipresent sunglass trend—tiny sunglasses. On the spring 2018 runways, Alexander Wang collaborated with Oakley, and brands like Stella McCartney and Fenty x Puma also had sporty sunnies on their respective runways. For Spring 2019, Heron Preston sent out Nike Vision performance glasses in his show, too.

In 2021, the sporty sunglass trend is back, but where 2018’s iterations felt obviously sporty, this year’s styles feel minimalist, polished, and easy to wear. Designers like Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, and Burberry all sent pairs of elevated, even futuristic frames down the runways paired with equally minimalist dresses and suiting. They provide a sporty touch to an otherwise fashion look; the aerodynamic, wrap-around silhouettes are the only real giveaway that the world of athletics inspired these futuristic frames.

Here, shop the sunglasses trend that’s having a moment in the sun. Plus, they’ll look just as good with your summer staples as they will with chunky fall sweaters and suiting.
