As the referee checked the VAR, former United defender Gary Neville knew what was about to come. He said: ‘Those tackles get punished badly and that looks over the top. As you watch it again, he will be nervous, Paul Pogba. He does not have a leg to stand on Paul Pogba.’
He added: ‘No tackle any professional player wants to see. You could damage your opponent if you jump in and challenge above the ball.
‘This is as bad as it gets. We have all lost matches in a bad way. SAF lost a match away 6-1. I lost heavily at Manchester City. But this performance, it has capitulated.’
Jamie Carragher agreed as he said: ‘There’s talk referees are more lenient but nobody wants challenges like that. Fingers crossed that it is not too bad.’
